APT Frequency Information System (AFIS)

Introduction:

One of important tasks of the APT Wireless Groupp is to “Construct and maintain a database of major radiocommunications systems including operators and IMT-2000 in APT member countries”. This database, once developed, would be a very useful tool for APT Members, especially those who are considering the introduction of new services and systems and who would like to benefit from the experience of other Members who are at a more advanced stage of development of their radiocommunication systems. Other entities, such as industry and operators, would also be able to benefit from this work. This database would also help to the goal of developing a common or harmonized approach to future spectrum usage in the region.

Accessing AFIS via the web could allow for consultation of either one Frequency Allocation Table in isolation or multiple Tables simultaneously for comparison. These Tables could be the Region 3 Table or national Allocation Tables of APT members. Thus it would be possible to look at one Table at a time, whether this was the Region 3 Table or a national Table, or to look at multiple Tables at once and these could be the Region 3 Table and a national Table or two national Tables. Hyperlinks are proposed to link the allocation information in the Tables with details of usage in the countries concerned. This would cover such aspects as the associated policy on band usage, licensing information and technical requirements.
