Introduction :
The APT Policy and Regulatory Forum 2014 (PRF-14) held from 20 to 22 May 2014 in Patttaya, Thailand agreed to establish a Correspondence Group to assist the Secretariat in preparing the program and draft outcome for the Asia-Pacific ICT Ministerial Meeting that will be held in Brunei Darussalam, from 10-11 September 2014.
The objectives of the Ministerial Meeting are:
- To commemorate the 35th Anniversary of APT that will be on 1st July 2014 recognizing the valuable role of APT in the regional cooperation on telecommunication/ Information Communication Technology and renewed high level commitment for continued support to further strengthen the community;
- To provide high-level policy guidelines for the region for the next five years on the development of telecommunication / ICT and its critical role in enabling creative economy and socio-economic development;
- To evaluate and follow-up on the developments in telecommunication / ICT, especially broadband development in the member countries towards achieving the objectives of the Bali Statement and Plan of Action;
- To provide a platform for the Ministers to have a free and open discussion on the pressing topics of the industry, among themselves, and with the experts and key leaders in the industry.
Term of References :
The Correspondence Group will assist the APT Secretariat on the following;
- To review the content of the draft agenda and program of the Ministerial Meeting and provide suggestions for improvement to make the Ministerial Meeting a successful event.
- To develop the draft of a final output of the Ministerial Meeting for consideration of the ministers and adoption at the Ministerial Meeting
- To advise the secretariat on any other matters to improve the content and arrangements of the meeting
- To submit the result to the 11th Asia Pacific Telecommunication and ICT Development Forum (ADF-11) which is a preparatory meeting for the Ministerial Meetingto be held in Brunei Darussalam from 8-9 September 2014.
Structure and Office Bearers :
The CG consists of a chairman who is responsible for leading the preparation work of the Ministerial Meeting according to the TOR of the CG. The Chairman of the CG is : Mr. Haji Jailani Haji Buntar, Brunei Darussalam.
