On
30 June 2020, the Royal Thai Government issued the Notification to extend the
duration of enforcement of the Declaration on an Emergency Situations in all
areas of the Kingdom of Thailand from 1 to 31 July 2020. The intention of this extension
is not to prohibit or limit any activities but to ensure integration of the
authority held by various state
officials, which the Communicable Disease Control Act lacks the power to
enforce. With the fifth phase
of the relaxing of restrictions in Thailand to be implemented from 1 July
2020, the enforcement of the emergency declaration will empower officials to
control travel in and out of the country and support the tracking and
quarantine of people suspected of being infected with the virus. While most control measures for COVID-19 prevention in
Thailand have already been lifted from 1 July 2020, APT Secretariat considers
the necessity to maintain the safety of its staff members not to be exposed
to the virus. Therefore, APT Secretariat continues implementing the
work-from-home measure, applying approximately 70% of staff members to work
at the headquarters per day until 31 July 2020. As of the publication
date, no staff member of APT Secretariat has caught the COVID-19. |

Virtual Interim Meeting of Working Group 3 of the APT WTSA-20
(APT WTSA20-WG3-IM) 16-17 June 2020 The Virtual Interim
Meeting of the Working Group 3 APT WTSA-20 was held from 16 to 17 June 2020.
141 delegates participated the virtual meeting. The meeting reviewed six
compilation documents prepared by 6 joint drafting groups on WTSA Resolutions
96, 52, 92, 77, 50, and 98. The meeting produced six consolidation temporary
documents and those documents will be further discussed at the 3rd Meeting of the APT Preparatory
Group for WTSA-20 (APT WTSA20-3) scheduled from 13 to 17 July 2020. |

4th APT Web Dialogue “Challenges for Telecommunication Regulators in South Asia
during COVID-19 Pandemic” 22 June 2020 The 4th
APT Web Dialogue was organized on Monday, 22 June 2020 from 13:00 hrs. to
15:00 hrs. (Bangkok time) under the theme "Challenges for
Telecommunication Regulators in South Asia during COVID-19 Pandemic",
inviting the head of regulators from SATRC countries. The
objective of this dialogue was to share the challenges that telecom/ICT
regulators are facing under the current situation, especially among South
Asian countries, what initiatives they have taken to mitigate those
challenges and share some the experiences for regional cooperation. The web
dialogue was attended by nine SATRC Member regulators, other APT Members and
industries. The dialogue gave an opportunity for the telecom regulators in
South Asia to share their experiences in handling the COVID-19 pandemic.
Regulators shared various initiatives and facilitative roles taken to enable
people to get the continuous services from home or from any other places. It
was indicated by the regulators that COVID-19 pandemic has brought new
opportunities to strengthen national telecommunication/ICT services on
priority basis to a level that can be capable of handling emergency
situations like COVID-19. Regulators appreciated the effort of APT and
support to maintain regional cooperation through SATRC. |

13-17 July 2020, Virtual Meeting APT will organize a
virtual meeting for the 3rd Meeting of the APT Preparatory Group for WTSA-20
(APT WTSA20-3) from 13 to 17 July 2020. The objective of APT
WTSA20-3 is to assist the APT Members to prepare for the ITU World
Telecommunication Standardization Assembly 2020 (WTSA-20). APT WTSA20-3 will
discuss the issues to be identified for WTSA-20 and develop Preliminary APT
Common Proposals (PACPs) on those issues based on the input contributions

APT will organize the 1st
Meeting of the APT Preparatory Group for WTDC-21 (APT WTDC21-1) on 24 July
2020. Given the COVID-19 pandemic situation in the Asia-Pacific, APT
Secretariat in consultation with the Chairman and Vice-Chairmen of the
Management Committee of the APT considered the necessity that the APT
WTDC21-1 will be organized virtually. The objective of the APT
WTDC21-1 is to initiate the preparatory process of the APT for the ITU World
Telecommunication Development Conference 2021 (WTDC-21). The APT WTDC21-1 is
expected to: ·
Elect the Chairman and Vice-Chairmen of the
preparatory group; ·
Form the structure of the preparatory group; ·
Nominate other Office Bearers of the
preparatory group based on the structure; ·
Develop working methods and work plan for the
preparation of WTDC-21; ·
Preliminary discuss issues pertaining to

The 2nd Meeting of the Correspondence Group
for the Strategic Plan of the APT for 2021-2023 (CGSP-2) APT will organize a
virtual meeting of the 2nd Meeting of the Correspondence Group for the
Strategic Plan of the APT for 2021-2023 (CGSP-2) from 6 to 7 August 2020. The objectives of the
CGSP-2 are to discuss the feedback from APT members on the first draft of the
Strategic Plan of the APT for 2021-2023 that had been circulated to all APT
members, discuss further inputs from the Members, and develop the second
draft of the Strategic Plan of the APT for 2021-2023. Click here

APT will organize a
virtual meeting for the 8th Meeting of the Working Group of Management
Committee on APT Legal Instruments (WGMC-8) from 10 to 11 August 2020. WGMC-8 will review and discuss
the tasks assigned by the 43rd Session of Management Committee of the APT,
i.e. to draft the revised Affiliate Membership Guidelines, review the
Resolution on Suspension on the Rights and Benefits of the Membership due to
Arrears, review the status of MoU between the APT and other Organizations,
and consider the timing for implementing the new retirement age. In addition,
it is also expected to discuss the draft Guidelines for APT Virtual Meetings. Click here
