The 2nd Meeting of the APT Preparatory Group for PP-22 (APT PP22-2)

15 - 17 February 2022, Virtual Meeting

 

The 2nd Meeting of the APT Preparatory Group for PP-22 (APT PP22-2) was held virtually from 15-17 February 2022. The meeting was attended by 168 participants from APT Members, Affiliate Member, International/Regional Organizations, and other organizations.

 

Mr. Houlin Zhao, Secretary-General of ITU attended and delivered his remarks at the opening session. Representatives from Regional and International Organization, namely RCC, LAS, CITEL and CEPT, also joined the meeting and shared their preparation for PP-22 to the meeting.

 

The meeting approved the additional nomination of the Office Bearers for APT PP-22. The meeting replaced the nomination from Rep. of Korea and elected Ms. Eum Jihyun (Rep. of Korea) as Vice-Chair of APT PP-22. The meeting also elected Mr. Yoshiaki Nagaya (Japan) as Chair of WG3. Mr. William Lee Kwong Hwa (Malaysia)  as Chair of WG3 and Ms. Thasawan Samorwong (Thailand) as Vice-Chair of WG3.

 

APT PP22-2 had received 11 input contributions from APT Members which were discussed during the meeting. The meeting approved the reports of Working Group meetings, other output documents and developed 2 draft PACPs as follows:

The 3rd Meeting of the APT Preparatory Group for PP-22 (APT PP22-3) will be held on 9-12 May 2022 in Tokyo, Japan as a hybrid meeting.

APT Secretariat Activity

 

APT Secretary General at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2022, Barcelona

 

Mr. Masanori Kondo, Secretary General of APT, attended GSMA Ministerial Programme held as part of the Mobile World Congress (MMC) 2022 from 28 February to 2 March 2022 in Barcelona, Spain.

 

GSMA Ministerial Programme was joined by political leaders, regulatory heads, technology experts and industry executives from around the world to debate the issues and steer a course towards economic recovery and a digitally inclusive world.

 

MMC 2022 incorporated a thought-leadership conference featuring prominent executives who represent global mobile operators, device manufacturers, technology providers, etc. Network, IoT and enterprise data security were among the top areas of interest this year at the conference.

 

During this event, the Secretary General of APT had meeting with representatives of APT members and discussed the collaboration and ways to enhance APT’s role and activities for benefits of the members. The Secretary General of APT met with H.E. Mr. Mustafa Jabbar, Minister of Posts and Telecommunications Division, Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology of Bangladesh; Maj. Gen (R) Amir Azeem Bajwa, Chairman of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA); and Mr. Niall Magennis, Senior Director, Capacity Building and GSMA Advance, GSMA.

The 29th Meeting of the APT Wireless Group (AWG-29)

21 - 29 March 2022, Virtual/Online Meeting

 

The 29th Meeting of AWG (AWG-29) will be held from 21 to 29 March 2022 as a virtual/online meeting.

 

AWG covers various aspects of emerging wireless systems to meet the upcoming digital convergence era in the Asia-Pacific region. It also assists to provide effective radiocommunication solutions and to facilitate the transfer of technology and knowledge. At its 29th meeting, the AWG will continue to study on the work items, report on the progress of studies and discuss the relevant issues. The activities at AWG-29 will be conducted
based on the new structure of AWG adopted at AWG-28.

 

 

APT Web Dialogue  “Spectrum Management Series :
The 6GHz band and the optimal approaches for Asia-Pacific (SM02-01)

Description automatically generatedIn Asia-Pacific and around the world the spectrum regulators are turning their attention to the 6 GHz band (5925 – 7125 MHz). Like all other low and mid-band spectrum, the 6 GHz band is a valuable resource that needs to be managed and utilized in a manner to maximize the national economic benefit. The 6GHz band consists of up to 1200 MHz of spectrum (5925 – 7125 MHz) with the ability of good coverage and capacity making it most suitable for licensed and unlicensed use. This is a good volume of spectrum for introducing new, fast and low-latency applications such as driverless vehicles, on-demand video applications etc. a reality.

 

This episode will address in detail the key issues and challenges in the 6 GHz band. It will revisit in detail the current situation in the global and regional perspective. Further, it will also look into the possibility of the customized approach for Asia-Pacific region on 6 GHz band. An eminent speaker will deliver a lecture at this episode. It will be followed by questions, answers and comments by the participants.

The 34th APT Standardization Program Forum (ASTAP-34)

18 - 22 April 2022, Virtual/Online Meeting

 

The objective of ASTAP is to promote, coordinate and harmonize telecommunication standardization activities across the Asia-Pacific region through regional cooperation. It is expected that participants strengthen their expertise on standardization and contribute to expand the scope of standardization activities through
practical solutions on the ICT issues in this region.

 

In addition, on 18 April, ASTAP-34 will organize one-day Industry Workshop - “Blockchain” and Standardization Workshop - “Guidelines on setting up National ICT Standardization Regime”.
